Dear PTA Members

Each and every parent is a member of the PTA the day their child starts school, how you choose to use that membership is up to you”

Its is February already, my hopes of doing a PTA newsletter for the return to school after the Christmas break were dashed and I am seriously in danger of missing my February deadline, so here goes.

The Christmas disco was a great success and a number of parents praised the DJ, who we have since agreed to use for all such events and a lot of positive comments were made about the benefits of the disco being on a Saturday. The event made £1000 and support was amazing. We found the hot dogs and pizzas were not as popular as anticipated and we are proposing that future discos just provide, sweets, crisps and drinks and these were the items that sold.

A lot of people praised the disco story boards which really captured the event and we now need to decide what to do with the boards as some the older children have asked about having them, perhaps a raffle or quiz??

The Christmas fair in its new format with increased commercial space for external traders went very well and the steady stream of people resulted in the event raising £2000 so well done to everyone. It is envisaged that we will keep this format, as there is significant interest from traders. We did learn a number of lessons though and they will be carried forward. Namely the stalls which were successful were those with crafts, children’s items and reasonably priced goods, the more expensive end and the stalls aimed at grown ups did not do as well.

We need to think about how we do mufti and look at those stalls which were a success in terms of money made and we are hoping we may be able to do this for the Christmas fair based on the information we took on the day.

Also as with the disco the food was not as popular as anticipated and the Scouts did advise that we might need to think about an alternative food to hotdogs next time as there was so much waste.

We have had our first meeting of the year on January 23 during which we voted Paul Winter in as the new Treasurer, thank you Paul and thank you to Louisa who has held the post for a number of years and made a fabulous job of it, Paul you have large shoes to fill.

Laura Gunner has agreed to take on the very important task of managing the PTA website which will ensure that it is kept up to date with all the key things that the PTA are doing.

There are a number of events we would like to put on this year and the next one is Come Dine With Me – a Eden supported event with Champagne, Roulette, 3-course meal and entertainment on February 27, Xenia Winter who is co-ordinating the event promises a fun filled night and a chance to get dressed up. We need to confirm bookings by the 24th February as we have had a lot of people expressing an interest but not too many firm bookings– so come on get a baby sitter and have a night with friends.

For details of all other events please check out www.stswithunspta.co.uk here you can find out what is going on, get in touch, we always want to hear your ideas and thoughts and you can also volunteer via the website too.

It has been a slow year for the PTA so far and we are hoping this will pick up, as we need the community to support the association in order to achieve the things we want for our school. At the moment we have £4’000 in the bank and we are open to ideas about how we use this, so far we have had suggestions to save up for a school mini bus, to subsidise school trips, to pay for outings and many others. The committee will take all the suggestions and during the April meeting will decide how to allocate the monies, so make sure you get your ideas in. That’s to all the parents, teachers and associated members.

The next meeting will be February 23 at The Florence Arms Pub from 7.30 pm, please join us and in the meantime thank you to all those who continue to support the PTA in any shape or form.

Very best wishes

Joann Robertson
PTA Chair
